GRADUATING SENIORS
Spartan Engineering RISING Seniors,
If you you haven't started NOW is the time to start your full-time job search. A complete, successful, get what you want full-time job search takes anywhere from 6 - 18 months!
A full-time job search generally happens in 4 phases; 1) Preparation, 2) Exploration, 3) Action, and 4) Results. Because it's May, let's see if we can Jump Start Stages 1 & 2!
Stage 1: Prep (2 - 4 months; May - Aug) & Stage 2: Explore (2 - 4 months; July - Sept)
Now is the time to showcase your skills thru the experiences you've had via your resume. Get Your Resume ready -- Utlize WHO Logic!
1) Make sure your Resume aligns with WHO -- I would suggest you review your resume for future applications and utilize the W-H-O method. Not only giving the reader the WHAT you did (task, assignment, project, etc.) but also go into HOW you accomplished the work (Tools, Processes, Strategies, etc.) and finalize the statement with the OUTCOME (measurement, desired effect, results, etc.). I have attached a handout on WHO LOGIC that will go over my suggestions in more detail and give you tangible examples of how you could improve your resume.
I also suggest you consider using the entire book as a valuation, inquiry and assessment tool across the your entire spectrum of market readiness and career advancement. The book can be found on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/s?k=who+logic+what+how+outcome&i=stripbooks&ref=nb_sb_noss_2
2) Decide your Alignment Priorities for your Career. Define what a) Location, b) Job Content, c) Environment/Culture, d) Company/Image mean to you when it comes to your job search. Then prioritize -Which is most important? Location? Company/Industry? (Rank 1 - 4). Finally weight each priority ... Out of 100, how much weight does your #1 ranked priority get, #2 and #3. Now you know your parameters and guide lines.
3) Identify your top companies to target based on your alignment (I suggest 20 - 30) drop them on a spreadsheet, then Seek opportunities with these companies and companies associated in their line of work, location, etc., wherever your priorities lie. DON'T WAIT FOR THEM TO POST ON HANDSHAKE, go to the company website and drop an application (starting in July). Utilize tools like Linked In to make connections with professionals/alumni/etc that work in the areas and companies you wish to pursue. Seek advice and "insider" information from them on the company, the industry and potential opportunities in the area.
